Thank You Mr. DMT emerged from a deeply personal experience of dissolution, connection, and surrender. During an encounter with plant medicine, the artist experienced the sensation of being embraced by the universe—a moment in which the boundaries between the individual self and something larger seemed to disappear.

The work reflects on this experience not as an escape from reality, but as an encounter with vulnerability, trust, and the possibility of transformation. Through the fragmented and layered language of collage, Shi explores the shifting boundaries between body, consciousness, memory, and the unknown.

At its core, Thank You Mr. DMT is a work about healing and reconnection: with oneself, with nature, and with a sense of belonging to something beyond the individual. The sacred appears here not through religion or dogma, but through direct experience—a fleeting moment of surrender in which separation gives way to unity.

The work becomes both a record of that encounter and an expression of gratitude for experiences capable of altering the way we perceive ourselves and our place within the world.
