Portrait of Anastasia Shi, an international contemporary artist based in Mexico

Anastasia Shi is an international contemporary artist based in Mexico, working from Mexico City. Born in Siberia, her practice reflects a life across Russia, China, the United States and Mexico. She studied Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and works across painting, drawing, ceramics, objects, public art and performance.

Combining abstraction, symbolism and fragmented figuration, Shi explores emotion, embodiment, identity, memory and transformation. Her compositions bring faces, bodies and organic forms into dialogue, using gesture, color and material to examine vulnerability and human connection.

Her work has been exhibited in Mexico, the United States, Italy, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia. Projects including Inner Child, developed during a residency in Río Blanco, Veracruz, connect her material practice with specific places and histories. From her Mexico City studio, Shi welcomes inquiries from collectors, curators and galleries seeking original works, exhibition collaborations and private studio viewings by appointment.
